First year growing out a good mane for this up and coming bull tahr. Not a shooter at maybe 6 years old. I don't think he'll ever grow a trophy set of horns.
Bull tahr waltzing after a nanny. Dark coat on this lad, he must live in the scrub mostly.
Running bull tahr.
Bull tahr and nanny ruting in the scrub. The photo doesn't show how steep it truly is. Decent horns on the bull.
Bull tahr watching the action below, after roughing up a bit of scrub with his horns.
Camp, tent and kit in the alpine. A great tahr spot.
Tahr country at sunrise. Frosty.
Nice curve on these old bull thar horns. Tips and ridge keel are intact, which is unusual for such an old West Coast bull.
The 7mm Rem Mag rig delivered another one shot performance, it rarely needs an encore with the 150gn Gamechangers it seems. The projectile was lodged under the skin on the otherside of its shoulder, so the bull absorbed all the energy.
After hours of glassing and miles of walking this bull mooched up to me at last light along the ridge top. After a good look and assessment through the spotting scope, I knew he was old and a shooter but I was stoked to discover he was a 12-13 year old bull. His body size was impressive and it took me a good 2 hours to skin him out fully - including his whole face and removing his horns. Will be cool to have an entire tahr from his nose to his tail as a rug.
Scenic in tahr terrain.
And while waiting, this big old bull tahr materializes on the ridgeline. He was on the prowl at last light.
